A note from the founding editors

We started TrafficBlog because every other SEO publication was selling the same listicle.

Six years ago, we left our jobs as analysts at Searchmetrics and Ahrefs with one observation: the operators who actually shipped compounding organic growth were not the ones reading the top-of-page ranking lists. They were reading teardowns of competitor sites, clickstream tables, and execution logs — material almost nobody was publishing because it took weeks to produce and could not be paraphrased into a 600-word post.

TrafficBlog is the publication we wanted to read. Every article is checked against a clickstream panel of 4.2 million opted-in users and a historical index going back to January 2022. Every screenshot is annotated. Every claim is footnoted. Every CSV is downloadable. We do not publish anything we could not defend in front of a head of SEO at a Series B SaaS company.

That is the bar, and it has not moved since 2019.

Editorial standards

Four rules every article must clear before it ships.

Our standard is the average article on the open web. Our standard is a 14-screenshot teardown with a downloadable CSV, or it does not run.

    Evidence before opinion

    Every assertion is tied to a screenshot, a clickstream table, a Wayback snapshot, or a third-party dataset. If we cannot source a number in 48 hours, the paragraph is cut.

  2. 02

    Annotate, do not illustrate

    Screenshots are first-class evidence. The average published article carries 14 annotated screenshots and 6 data tables, with source and capture date called out in italic captions.

  3. 03

    Downloadable, not screenshot-able

    Every dataset we publish ships with a CSV the reader can open in their own stack. No paywall, no email gate — the data is the point of the article.

  4. 04

    Corrections in public

    If a claim is wrong, we publish a dated correction note at the top of the article and email the correction to the newsletter. Our 212 published case studies since 2020 report a median +142% lift over 90 days, with full methodology linked from each.

The newsroom

Eleven full-time editors and data engineers across three cities.

Founded by two ex-Searchmetrics and Ahrefs analysts in 2019. The current masthead is built around a research function — three data engineers feed every article from a clickstream panel of 4.2 million users.
