What the Index measures

A weekly ranking of the fastest-growing domains — sourced from real user clickstream, not public estimators.

01 · What gets ranked

Domains with statistically meaningful organic lift.

Every Tuesday, the Index ranks 500 domains that registered a positive 30-day organic growth delta inside our clickstream panel. We require a minimum panel exposure threshold before a domain is eligible — small one-off spikes from low-traffic properties are filtered out so the ranking stays signal, not noise.

  • Eligibility floor: ≥ 50,000 panel sessions in the trailing 30 days.
  • Growth window: organic sessions, day-over-day, 30-day rolling.
  • Vertical cuts: SaaS, Ecommerce, Publishing, Fintech, EdTech, Travel.

02 · Where the data comes from

A 4.2M-user clickstream panel, refreshed weekly.

The TrafficShare Index is built on first-party clickstream from 4.2M opted-in users who have explicitly consented to share their anonymized browsing data. Unlike public traffic estimators — which infer rankings from crawl signatures or toolbar samples — our panel measures real session-level visits to real domains, every day, since January 2022.

  • Panel size: 4.2M opted-in users (US, UK, DE, FR, ES, BR).
  • Refresh cadence: weekly, every Tuesday at 9:00 AM ET.
  • Historical depth: 36 months of weekly snapshots, archived publicly.

03 · Why it isn't another listicle

Primary research, not compiled rankings.

We do not aggregate third-party traffic estimates, republish toolbars, or stitch together scraped SERP data. The Index is a single, internally consistent dataset with a stable methodology — so a domain ranked #42 in Issue 12 (March 2022) can be compared apples-to-apples with #42 in Issue 184 (this week). That's why HubSpot, Ahrefs, and Semrush cite it as a primary source in their annual industry reports.

  • Methodology: consistent since launch; methodology doc published openly.
  • Citation footprint: referenced in 380+ backlink studies since 2021.
  • Audit trail: every weekly snapshot is dated, archived, and downloadable.

Practical questions

What SEO teams ask before adopting a proprietary data source.

  1. How fresh is the data — and when does the next drop land?

Every Tuesday at 9:00 AM ET. The data window closes the previous Sunday at midnight UTC, the panel is reprocessed overnight, and the new ranking is delivered to subscribers before most teams hold their Tuesday standup. Each issue is timestamped and archived so you can cite the exact snapshot in client work.

  2. Can I access the historical archive — every issue going back to January 2022?

Yes. Subscribers get access to the full 36-month archive — 184 consecutive weekly snapshots — through a searchable index on the Research page. Each archived issue ships with the original CSV, the methodology note for that period, and a downloadable chart pack. There is no paywall on historical issues.

  3. Which verticals are covered, and how do I read the vertical cuts?

Six verticals: SaaS, Ecommerce, Publishing, Fintech, EdTech, and Travel. Each issue ranks the top 500 fastest-growing domains overall and breaks the same 500 down by vertical, so you can read the ranking as a single list or as six parallel leaderboards. Vertical classifications are reviewed quarterly.

  4. How do I cite the Index, or pitch a domain for inclusion?

Citations follow the form "TrafficShare Index, Issue [N], [date]" with the methodology doc linked. Inclusion is automatic — every domain that clears the eligibility floor and registers positive 30-day growth appears in the next issue. You do not need to pitch; the Index is observational, not curated. Editorial corrections and methodology questions go to the research team at the address listed on the About page.
